Mint

Mint

Mint is a genus of plants in the family Lamiaceae (mint family).Mint was originally used as a medicinal herb to treat stomach ache and chest pains. There are several uses in traditional medicine and preliminary research for possible use in treating irritable bowel syndrome. Menthol from mint essential oil (40–90%) is an ingredient of many cosmetics and some perfumes. Menthol and mint essential oil are also used in aromatherapy which may have clinical use to alleviate post-surgery nausea. Animal and in vitro studies suggest that mint leaves could have wider medicinal uses than those currently known. These types of studies have found that mint is able to kill bacteria, reduce stress, and fight cancerous tumor cells. Human trials will be required to determine if mint also has these effects on the human body.

Myrtle

Myrtle

Myrtle (Myrtus communis) is a shrub commonly found in Iran. The fruit, leaves, and branches are used in traditional Persian medicine. It was first described by Swedish botanist Linnaeus in 1753. Myrtle contains chemicals that might help fight against fungus and bacteria, and reduce swelling. People use myrtle for acne, canker sores, abnormally heavy bleeding during menstrual periods, persistent heartburn, warts, and many other conditions, but there is no good scientific evidence to support these uses.

Melissa plant

Melissa plant

Melissa is a genus of perennial herbs in the Lamiaceae, native to Europe and Asia but cultivated and naturalized in many other places. It was used as far back as the Middle Ages to reduce stress and anxiety, promote sleep, improve appetite, and ease pain and discomfort from indigestion (including gas and bloating, as well as colic). Some evidence suggests that lemon balm, in combination with other herbs, may help treat indigestion. Others reveal that lemon balm oil has a high degree of antibacterial activity. And a few studies have found that lemon balm may help improve cognitive function and decrease agitation in people with Alzheimer disease.
